There's a reason why Chrono Trigger continues to be mentioned whenever developers talk about the RPGs that inspired them, even more than 30 years after its original release. Square's 1995 classic was ahead of its time in so many ways, particularly with its approach to combat and the way its time-traveling narrative allowed players to experience the consequences of their actions in different eras. And while the genre has evolved considerably since then, I think there's still something special about the way Chrono Trigger brought its world to life, especially when you consider just how much of its design continues to influence modern RPGs.
