Preventive healthcare startup Cent has raised $15 million in a Series A funding round co-led by Blume Ventures and South Park Commons. The company has also acquired AI radiology platform Medsee.
The round saw participation from individual investors Arun Sarin, Srinivas Narayanan, Sharath Narayana, Aprameya Radhakrishna and Krishan Sridhar, Cent founder Shashank ND said in a LinkedIn post.
Founded by Shashank ND, who also founded healthcare platform Practo, Cent focuses on early disease detection through medical imaging, biomarkers and artificial intelligence (AI).
Over the past year, around 10,000 people have undergone screening through Cent's protocol. Of these, one in four had a finding that required medical attention, while one in 40 needed to consult a doctor immediately, the company said.
Cent's screening protocol combines full body MRI, low dose CT scans, DEXA, ECG, ECHO and over 100 biomarkers in a single session of around two hours. The startup operates its own centres in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi NCR, alongside its earlier network of partner diagnostic labs.
The fresh capital will be used to invest in hardware, AI and clinical research. The acquisition of Medsee will also strengthen Cent's AI capabilities, Shashank said.
Cent aims to conduct 10 million scans by 2035 and help save one million lives through early disease detection.
The startup is looking to address the gap in India's healthcare system, where several noncommunicable diseases are diagnosed at advanced stages. India has an estimated 101 million people living with diabetes and 136 million with prediabetes, while around 315 million people have hypertension, according to figures cited by Cent.
