Mumbai-based healthtech startup Docterz, which makes clinic management software for doctors, has raised Rs 5 crore from around 35 investors. Nearly 60% of the money came from doctors who use its platform.
Around 20 doctors who use the startup's platform collectively invested nearly Rs 3 crore, translating to an average contribution of approximately Rs 15 lakh per doctor. The remaining Rs 2 crore or so came from about 15 other investors, including Vineeta Singh, co-founder and CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics, and Avnish Anand, co-founder and former CEO of jewellery brand CaratLane.
Docterz said it will use the funding to grow organically, look at acquisitions and build AI tools for doctors. It also wants to reach more independent practitioners, smaller clinics and healthcare organisations across India.
Founded over a decade ago by practising paediatrician Atish Laddad, Docterz is based in Mumbai. Laddad serves as CEO, while co-founder Shailesh Garg is its CTO. Laddad said the participation of doctors who use the platform was what set the funding round apart.
“What makes this funding round special for me is that around 20 doctors who use Docterz have chosen to invest in its future. They know the product, they have seen its evolution, and they understand the needs of the medical community,” Laddad said.
“As a paediatrician, I started Docterz because I understood the challenges doctors face while managing a practice,” he added.
“ One of the strongest signals for any business is when its customers are willing to invest their own money in it.
