Walmart plans to continue adding ways to make health and wellness products and services affordable and convenient for customers, the retailer said in a Monday (Sept. 21) press release marking the 20th anniversary of its $4 generic prescription program.
“Over the past 20 years, the $4 generic program is estimated to have saved U.S. customers billions of dollars on their prescriptions,” Walmart said in the release.
Today, Walmart’s health and wellness offering also includes nearly 4,600 Walmart pharmacies across the country; pharmacists who offer testing and treatment in addition to prescription dispensing in the states in which they are authorized to do so; Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery in 49 states; Better Care Services that helps customers connect with third-party virtual providers for care and support; and Nutrition Hub that provides opt-in personalized nutrition insights and recommendation, per the release.
Noting the anniversary of the launch of the generic prescription program, Kevin Host, senior vice president, Pharmacy, Walmart U.S., said in the release: “The opportunity now extends beyond the price of a prescription. It’s about making it easier for customers to connect the different pieces of their health and wellness journey.”
Ralph Clare, executive vice president, Health & Wellness, Walmart U.S., said in the release: “From pharmacy and care to nutrition, healthy foods and everyday wellness, we can focus on what customers need and find practical ways to make taking care of their health easier, more convenient and more affordable.”
PYMNTS reported in April that Walmart expanded its Better Care Services platform to support customers who are taking or considering GLP-1 drugs.
