Vrtx, a Saudi-based embedded finance infrastructure provider, has closed a $3.6m pre-seed round as it seeks to remove the heavy build burden facing companies that want to offer financial services in the Kingdom.
SCV by Standard Chartered led the list of backers, joined by Sadu Capital, BYLD, Suhail Ventures, F6 Ventures, TAZ Investment and Palm Ventures.
The company has also secured In-Principle Approval (IPA) from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) for an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence. This regulatory milestone moves Vrtx closer to delivering its services within Saudi Arabia’s supervisory framework.
Vrtx was established by Mishal Bin Slimah and Omar Shaaban, who were previously colleagues at Tweeq, an early Saudi digital finance platform later bought by Tabby.
Launching products there exposed the founders to a recurring obstacle: even basic financial offerings demand that technology, operations, compliance and security all be developed simultaneously. They set up Vrtx to ease that burden.
The firm combines the infrastructure and operational tooling businesses need to embed financial services, covering wallets, payouts, card issuance, transfers and transaction processing. Rather than forcing firms to construct systems, link up payment flows and run operations independently, Vrtx wants to offer a faster, less complicated route to going live.
Its platform includes a secure sandbox, step-by-step workflows and an operational layer designed to scale. Vrtx hopes this combination will shorten the journey from concept to launch while giving clients tighter oversight of balances, transactions and financial rules, without burdening them with excess technical or operational work.
Co-founder and CEO Bin Slimah sees Vrtx as a central hub of FinTech capabilities from which any business can select and build according to the specific needs of its product.
