US Foods Counts AI Gains in Seller Hours and Cases per Mile

US Foods’ AI sales tool saved 32,000 seller hours in six months, cutting proposal preparation from four hours to 30 minutes. AWS reported a 10-fold return on investment.

Its in-house Visit Assistant Insights tool generated 700,000 sales recommendations in six weeks, helping sellers prioritize accounts and identify growth opportunities.

US Foods reported a 2% improvement in cases delivered per mile through routing software and a 3% increase in online cart conversion from AI-powered search.

A US Foods seller used to spend up to four hours preparing a proposal for a prospective restaurant, reading menus, spreadsheets and handwritten notes. A generative artificial intelligence tool now does that work, Amazon Web Services said in a case study. AWS also claimed a 10-fold return. It did not disclose the investment or the savings, and US Foods has not cited the figure in its earnings materials.

US Foods serves about 250,000 customer locations and posted $39.4 billion in fiscal 2025 sales. Its growth depends on three things: how many accounts sellers can call on, how much each account buys, and how cheaply orders get delivered. The company now has an AI tool aimed at each, and the disclosures around each one differ.

The tool, called the Automated Order Guide, reads a prospect’s menus and notes and builds the product proposal, and it saved more than 32,000 seller hours in its first six months, the AWS case study said.
