Sumsub has chosen IPinfo as its main provider of IP geolocation and VPN detection data. The move is meant to give clients evidence they can show auditors and regulators when they challenge a risk decision.
Under the arrangement, IPinfo’s data runs inside Sumsub’s platform and feeds the KYC and fraud prevention checks its customers rely on. The aim is IP intelligence that Sumsub can defend line by line, rather than signals that are simply asserted.
The decision followed a practical problem. When clients asked why particular IP addresses had been classified as high risk, Sumsub lacked the supporting evidence to justify those labels. It needed a data source whose results could withstand close examination.
Tested against Sumsub’s own known traffic, IPinfo showed stronger accuracy at country level and produced fewer of the major location errors that carry the most weight in fraud and compliance work.
It matched the correct country for 98.77% of the IP addresses assessed. Half of its results fell within 20km of the matching GPS position, and under 6% landed more than 500km away.
The partnership reflects a wider change among FinTech and verification firms. IP intelligence is no longer treated as a secondary enrichment layer. It now underpins high-stakes decisions, and platforms dealing with rising complexity increasingly want data that is precise, measurable, explainable and backed by proof.
Sumsub provides KYC and fraud prevention checks for businesses. IPinfo supplies IP data covering geolocation, location precision, anonymisation, hosting infrastructure and the network behind each address. Combined, these signals give Sumsub a fuller profile of any IP address.
