Soter Insure has secured strategic backing from Standard Chartered‘s SC Ventures and Japan’s SBI Group, strengthening its relationships with established financial institutions as it looks to expand insurance protection for the digital asset sector.
The two groups have joined the second close of Soter’s Galaxy-led Series B funding round, alongside Token Bay Capital, which has backed the insurer since its Series A. They join existing investors Coinbase Ventures, Franklin Templeton and Brevan Howard Digital, which participated in the first close announced in July 2026.
The involvement of SC Ventures and SBI Group reflects a growing recognition that insurance is becoming an important part of the infrastructure needed to support institutional digital asset adoption. Banks and asset managers need protection that allows them to manage crypto-related exposures against the same risk standards applied to traditional financial markets.
Soter is positioning its offering around this requirement, providing specialist cover designed for financial institutions operating in digital asset markets. Its policies include Directors & Officers (D&O), Professional Indemnity (PI), Crime, Specie, Slashing and Smart Contract Failure insurance. Coverage can be denominated in fiat currencies or native digital assets.
The latest strategic backing will support Soter’s efforts to increase its underwriting capacity, develop its technology and expand into additional markets. The company is targeting growth across Asia-Pacific, through its Hong Kong presence, as well as Europe and the US.
For SC Ventures, the investment adds to its involvement in the digital asset ecosystem. As Standard Chartered’s innovation, FinTech investment and venture-building arm, it has deployed more than $1bn across over 30 portfolio companies since 2018.
