Phase, a company developing the operational backbone for an economy driven by AI agents, has switched on its Layer 1 blockchain mainnet with $45m of financial support supplied by its founder, Kirill Eves.
Eves is also the founder of Unlimit, a worldwide financial infrastructure business active in over 180 countries that handles upwards of $40bn in payments each year. Phase intends its blockchain to serve as the base for a full set of tools that allow AI agents to operate on their own, covering unrestricted web access, coordination of top AI models, distributed computing for AI workloads and payments.
The system is underpinned by a decentralised web of ordinary consumer devices, which protect the blockchain while also contributing bandwidth and processing capacity to its AI offerings.
Many blockchain networks depend on specialised servers and staked tokens, but Phase lets participants help secure its network through devices they already own, without buying extra equipment or committing money upfront. Smartphones are the first devices to be supported, and users can join by installing the Phase app via the Apple App Store or Google Play. To keep the network fair, Phase relies on a reputation-based consensus model that rewards dependable contributors and picks validators at random. It also checks that devices and node software are genuine, aiming to stop a small group of large operators from gaining dominance.
Alongside the mainnet, Phase has rolled out Phase Proxy, a tool designed to widen the parts of the internet AI agents can reach. The service sends agent traffic through mobile and residential connections on the network, helping agents reach sites that might otherwise refuse or limit them.
