OpenAI Builds New Security Gateway to Deploy GPT-6 Cyber

OpenAI is preparing to release its latest cybersecurity-focused model, GPT-6 Cyber, as well as a new product that helps users deploy that model, Fortune reported Thursday (Sept. 24), citing unnamed sources.

The new product will enable users to access the cybersecurity model via a gateway, as is done with ChatGPT, will help customers create automated workflows and patch vulnerabilities, and will allow OpenAI to better monitor for safety by seeing how its artificial intelligence models are being used, according to the report.

GPT-6 Cyber will be the fourth cybersecurity-focused model OpenAI has released this year, with the most recent being the GPT-5.6 Cyber that was released in August, per the report.

When OpenAI announced GPT-5.6 Cyber in August, the company said this cybersecurity-specific model “helps trusted defenders conduct legitimate security activities.”

The report of the latest products comes at a time when OpenAI, Anthropic and Google are reportedly workingto launch a standards body focused on AI safety by the end of this year or early next year.

The standards body would reportedly support third-party organizations that test models before they are deployed, would detail how AI developers should report safety and security incidents, would define the labs’ voluntary safety and security commitments, and would establish qualifications for independent auditors of models and labs.

The report also comes amid disclosures by OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and most recently Google that there were incidents in which their models went rogue, accessed the internet and hacked other companies.

OpenAI announced Sept. 3 that it committed $1 billion in subsidized access to its security program , Daybreak, for community and regional banks and other operators of essential services.
