Maybank customers can now use their MAE app for QR payments in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos.
The expansion follows Maybank’s integration with Alipay+ and forms part of PayNet’s broader cross-border DuitNow QR expansion, announced earlier today.
Maybank’s Scan & Pay service was already available in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia, bringing its total reach to eight overseas markets.
Customers can pay at participating merchants without downloading another app or registering for an Alipay+ account.
They can also view the amount in both the local currency and Malaysian ringgit before confirming payment.
Maybank reported an almost 80 percent increase in total cross-border transactions in the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period last year.
Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, Group CEO of Community Financial Services, Maybank, said,
“Supported by PayNet’s cross-border payments network, the integration with Alipay+ expands the reach of MAE Scan & Pay to more markets, giving customers greater flexibility to make QR payments when travelling overseas.”
Maybank also plans to add five currencies to its Global Access Account-i by December 2026.
The addition of the Chinese yuan, Thai baht, Indonesian rupiah, Vietnamese dong and Cambodian riel will bring the total to 23 supported currencies, allowing customers to manage and make payments in multiple currencies.
