Mastercard has launched a new tool to help financial institutions detect fraud and assess risks before stablecoin payments are completed.
The Stablecoin Security solution combines payment data with blockchain analytics to identify scams, sanctions exposure and other financial crime risks.
Delivered through an application programming interface (API), it analyses transaction details, the origin of funds and exposure to restricted parties to generate risk scores.
The service can also be integrated into existing fraud and compliance systems.
Mastercard cited a study of 593 million stablecoin transfer events across 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025.
It found that nearly 60 percent involved multiple steps rather than direct transfers between two parties, potentially making risk assessment more complex.
“Stablecoins are creating new possibilities for value exchange, but financial institutions need the right intelligence and controls to participate with confidence.
By bringing payment and blockchain insights together, Stablecoin Security extends Mastercard’s fraud and risk capabilities to digital asset payments, giving institutions a clearer view of risk to make more informed decisions and build greater trust.”
Keyrails supports high-value cross-border trade payments, while Borderless.xyz connects financial institutions with licensed stablecoin providers in more than 113 countries and 72 currencies.
Mastercard also plans to expand the solution’s reach in 2027 through BVNK, the stablecoin infrastructure provider it acquired in August 2026.
Stablecoin Security is launching first in North America, with worldwide commercial availability expected in 2027.
