Hopae has joined the FIDO Alliance, the industry body known for developing passkey standards, as it expands its focus to digital credentials and authentication for AI agents.
The digital identity provider brings experience connecting more than 75 government-backed and bank-backed electronic identity (eID) schemes across borders. This aligns with the alliance’s Digital Credentials Working Group, which aims to improve the interoperability and adoption of digital credentials across platforms and markets.
FIDO Alliance executive director and CEO Andrew Shikiar said, “We’re pleased to welcome Hopae to the FIDO Alliance. Their experience connecting more than 75+ eID schemes across borders speaks directly to the interoperability challenges our Digital Credentials Working Group is addressing, and we look forward to their contributions.”
Over the past decade, the FIDO Alliance has brought together more than 300 technology companies, financial institutions and government organisations, including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Mastercard and Visa. Its work has focused on replacing passwords with simpler and more secure authentication methods. Passkeys are now used across billions of accounts and supported by major platforms.
Digital identity is evolving beyond passwordless authentication as initiatives such as the EU Digital Identity Wallet, mobile driving licences, decentralised identity models and emerging ISO standards reshape how people prove their identities online and access services.
The European Union is progressing plans for digital identity wallets across its 27 member states, while national schemes such as Aadhaar in India, Singpass in Singapore and UAE PASS in the United Arab Emirates demonstrate how government-backed digital identity systems are being deployed at scale.
