EDX Markets, a digital asset technology firm that combines an institutional-only trading venue with a central clearinghouse, announced a partnership with BitSafe to launch spot trading of CBTC, BitSafe’s Bitcoin-backed digital asset on the Canton Network. The listing marks CBTC’s first availability on a centralized exchange, enabling eligible clients to buy and sell the asset against U.S. dollars through EDX’s marketplace.
CBTC is backed 1:1 by Bitcoin and designed to bring its value into Canton’s financial ecosystem. Through CBTC, clients can access Bitcoin-backed assets within Canton’s privacy-enabled ecosystem, supporting use cases including trading, lending and asset transfers. The asset incorporates distributed reserve controls and Chainlink Proof of Reserve to provide transparency into its Bitcoin backing.
“As institutional adoption of digital assets continues to evolve, providing access to emerging blockchain ecosystems through trusted trading infrastructure is increasingly important,” said David Olsson, Chief Commercial Officer of EDX Markets. “Our partnership with BitSafe expands the range of assets available to EDX participants while creating a new point of access to Bitcoin-backed value on Canton. This listing reflects our continued commitment to connecting clients with new opportunities across digital asset markets.”

The launch introduces an initial CBTC/USD spot market, with plans to add CBTC/USD perpetual contracts in the coming weeks and CBTC/BTC spot trading planned for a later stage. EDX also plans to accept Canton Coin as eligible collateral for CBTC perpetual trading. In addition, EDX and BitSafe will introduce a trading incentive program that includes zero trading fees for eligible CBTC trades, covered CBTC withdrawal fees and Canton Coin rewards based on eligible trading volume, subject to program terms.
