Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is expanding into Poland as it looks to bring its specialist commercial insurance capabilities to a new market, appointing Carsten Keune to lead the operation and strengthen its reach across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
The move adds Poland to BHSI’s European network as insurers look to build stronger regional distribution and provide businesses with access to tailored commercial risk coverage. Keune will serve as country manager from Warsaw, overseeing the insurer’s local strategy and developing relationships with brokers and customers across Poland and the wider CEE region.
BHSI said the new operation will combine local underwriting expertise, responsive claims handling and specialist insurance solutions with the financial strength of its parent group, Berkshire Hathaway. The approach is designed to support businesses with complex commercial risks while building long-term relationships with insurance intermediaries and policyholders.
Its offering across Central and Eastern Europe spans commercial property, casualty, construction, energy, executive and professional lines, marine and multinational coverage. Establishing a presence in Poland gives the insurer another route to serve regional businesses and expand its commercial insurance distribution.
BHSI operates in Europe through Berkshire Hathaway European Insurance DAC (BHEI), an Irish-domiciled designated activity company registered in Dublin, and Berkshire Hathaway International Insurance Limited (BHIIL), incorporated in England and Wales and based in London. Both are affiliates of Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSIC), a Nebraska-domiciled corporation.
BHSIC writes a broad range of insurance products, including commercial property, casualty, healthcare professional liability, transactional liability, surety, travel, accident and health, employer stop loss, homeowners and multinational insurance.
