Zoho launches AI-powered payroll platform for UK firms

Zoho, the privately held global technology group, has rolled out Zoho Payroll in the UK, a payroll management platform designed specifically to meet the compliance obligations facing British employers.

The platform automates calculations for Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and National Insurance, and it files Real Time Information (RTI) submissions directly with HMRC. It also includes AI features, among them Zoho’s assistant Ask Zia. Payroll teams can use it to carry out tasks, produce forecasts and spot trends by typing everyday language, and employees can use it to get answers to their own payroll queries.

The launch comes as UK payroll rules continue to shift. From April 2026, Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) became payable from an employee’s first day of illness. From April 2027, benefits in kind will need to be taxed through payroll in each pay period, replacing reporting on P11D forms. Employers must also send a full payment submission to HMRC no later than payday, and businesses with nine or fewer staff can face monthly penalties beginning at £100 for late filing.

Zoho said these changes add to firms’ existing obligations and make it harder to stay on top of compliance. It cited research from Finity in which 89% of payroll professionals reported encountering payment errors over the previous year, and 38% said issues came up monthly. According to Zoho, many of these preventable mistakes come from manual work and systems that don’t connect, which is the problem Zoho Payroll aims to solve.

The platform runs weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls, creates payslips and BACS salary files, and supports approval workflows for more complex needs.
