Global professional services firm Aon has established a dedicated North America healthcare vertical within its Risk Capital division, bringing together its healthcare reinsurance and commercial risk advisory capabilities as US providers take on greater financial exposure.
The new business combines Aon’s healthcare liability reinsurance practice, which supports insurers covering physicians, hospitals and long-term care organisations, with its commercial risk advisory services for healthcare providers. Nick Gaudiosi will lead the integrated operation as North America healthcare industry leader, risk capital.
The launch comes as the financial responsibilities of US healthcare providers continue to evolve. Data from the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network shows that close to 29% of US healthcare payments now flow through value-based contracts, which can leave providers exposed to financial losses depending on patient outcomes and care costs.
At the same time, healthcare systems and the insurers protecting them are dealing with rising liability expenses, social inflation and increasingly substantial court awards. These pressures are creating overlapping risks for providers and insurers, making it harder to assess and finance exposures in isolation.
Aon intends to give clients a more connected view of these risks, helping them determine which exposures to retain and which to transfer. Its range of solutions includes traditional insurance, reinsurance, captive structures and alternative capital, with the aim of helping organisations manage financial volatility.
Gaudiosi has served as senior managing director and healthcare segment leader for reinsurance since 2025, where he helped expand Aon’s medical professional liability reinsurance team. He will continue to lead that strategy alongside his new responsibilities.
