Volvo Car India has officially launched the Volvo EX90 at ₹1.26 crore (ex-showroom), marking the Swedish luxury carmaker’s entry into India’s premium three-row electric SUV segment. Positioned as the brand’s flagship electric SUV, the EX90 combines Scandinavian luxury, advanced safety systems and long-distance electric mobility.
The new electric SUV is offered in a single, fully loaded six-seater configuration and competes against the Kia EV9 and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. With a claimed driving range of 625 km, a 106 kWh battery and an 800V electrical architecture, the EX90 becomes one of Volvo’s most technologically advanced offerings in India.
Volvo has adopted an aggressive pricing strategy for its flagship electric SUV. At ₹1.26 crore, the EX90 costs approximately ₹27.2 lakh more than the petrol-powered XC90, while undercutting its principal three-row electric SUV rivals.
The EX90 is particularly significant because Volvo is positioning it as a technology-led flagship rather than simply an electric alternative to its existing petrol-powered SUVs.
The India-spec Volvo EX90 is powered by a 106 kWh battery pack connected to two electric motors, enabling all-wheel-drive capability.
Despite weighing substantially more than a conventional family SUV, the EX90 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds.
Its dual-motor system delivers immediate electric torque, while all-wheel drive should provide improved traction in varying road conditions.
Volvo claims a WLTP-certified range of 625 km. However, real-world driving range will depend on driving speeds, climate control usage, traffic conditions and terrain.
5 km/kWh, translating into an estimated range of around 580 km under its test conditions.
