After making the Range Rover electric, with the Sport expected to follow by the end of 2026, Land Rover is focusing on what will be its most important new model of the year. And perhaps beyond. That is because the Range Rover GT will be the British brand’s first model not to adopt an SUV stance.
At a time when nearly everything with four wheels is trying to sit higher off the ground, Gaydon is going against the trend.
We have already seen official photos, though with the Range Rover GT still camouflaged. This prototype is also under wraps, with images published on the Instagram page the_carspy.
The images show the Range Rover GT up close, revealing a front end that appears to follow the British brand’s familiar design language, with slim, horizontally oriented headlights. The nose is completely closed off: there will be no need to cool an engine because the underhood area will house cables and control systems for the electric powertrain.
The fifth model in the lineup — alongside the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, and Velar — will in fact be the first to launch without any internal-combustion engine option. At least at the beginning, as a full-hybrid powertrain is expected to arrive later.
"A fully electric grand tourer designed to combine uncompromised off-road capability with long-distance comfort" is how the company describes it. As noted, this is not an SUV, although all-wheel drive and the ability to move confidently off-pavement will certainly be part of the package.
