BMW is saying goodbye to the iX. With the 2026 model essentially sold out, BMW is preparing to introduce its replacement, which already looks like a big upgrade.
The iX went on sale in the US in 2022 as BMW’s first dedicated electric SUV. After a short four-year run, BMW confirmed earlier this year that it was discontinuing the iX in the US after the 2026 model year to make room for its next-generation of fully electric vehicles.
BMW didn’t take long to sell through inventory, with 2026 iX models essentially sold out in the US.
The iX landing page now redirects you to the new BMW X5 instead. According to online auto research firm CarsDirect, about 10 new iX models remain nationwide.
BMW’s Neue Klasse vehicles, starting with the new 2027 iX3, mark a step change from its previous EVs.
At the center is the Neue Klasse platform, which introduces BMW’s sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive, new batteries, and an 800-volt electrical architecture.
BMW said the new Gen6 eDrive system delivers 30% higher charging speeds and driving range than its previous system, with some models seeing an even greater increase.
The 2027 iX3 50 xDrive, BMW’s first Neue Klasse vehicle, starts at $61,500 and offers an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 434 miles. In comparison, the 2026 iX xDrive 60 had an EPA range of up to 364 miles.
While the iX3 is a smaller, compact electric SUV compared to the iX, BMW is preparing to launch the iX5 as a more direct replacement.
