Technology, scale and localisation key to building India’s competitive EV ecosystem: Industry leaders
Industry leaders stress the need for sustained R&D investment, reliable components suited to Indian conditions and greater volume visibility to drive cost competitiveness and supply-chain resilience.
India’s EV growth hinges on deeper localisation, indigenous technology and manufacturing scale.
India's ambition to build a competitive EV ecosystem will hinge on its ability to develop technology, scale up manufacturing and deepen localisation, with automakers and component suppliers working together to bridge critical gaps in the supply chain, industry leaders noted. While policy support and rising demand have accelerated the transition to electric mobility, the next phase of growth will require sustained investment in R&D, reliable components tailored to Indian operating conditions and greater confidence in the volumes needed to justify investments. These priorities emerged in the latest episode of ETAuto Insight 360 , featuring Mahendra K Goyal, Group President & CEO, Anand Group; Ashish Tandon, Global Head of Customer Excellence, Euler Motors; and Vijay Kumar, Founder & CEO, Tsuyo Manufacturing. The panellists agreed that India's EV supply chain has progressed considerably, but technology maturity, scale and cost competitiveness remain critical to unlocking its full potential. Tech and localisation at the core
The EV powertrain remains one of the most important areas for domestic technology development, given its significance to vehicle performance, cost and reliability.
According to Ashish Tandon, Global Head of Customer Excellence at Euler Motors, the industry has moved beyond its early dependence on imported components. Localisation is gaining traction through government initiatives and customer demand for reliable vehicles with lower maintenance costs.
