A Chevy Impala underpins one of the most famous cars in movie history, and this November, someone gets to buy it. Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies will sell the Hero Batmobile from 1992's Batman Returns on Monday, November 23, in Los Angeles and online.

Julien's Auctions estimates the car will bring between $5 million and $7 million. A sale at that level would set a new auction record for a movie car, topping the $4.2 million paid for the Batmobile from the 1960s television series.

Tim Burton's Batmobile skipped a standard production platform entirely. Its frame is built from two Chevy Impala chassis spliced together, a piece of car culture worth revisiting alongside other iconic movie cars that have crossed the auction block.

The fiberglass body runs 19 feet, 8 inches from bumper to bumper. Its Art Deco styling pairs a turbine-inspired nose intake with oversized rear fins, a shape built to read as a weapon rather than a road car, which suited Burton's darker take on Gotham City.

Power comes from a Chevy V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission installed under the one-piece front end. Julien's Auctions says this example has been screen-matched to most of the film's driving sequences, making it the Hero Batmobile used on camera rather than a backup unit.

Its history since filming includes appearances at the movie's premiere and wrap party, followed by storage and a stint on display at the Marconi Automotive Museum. The car still wears its original glossy black finish, a detail that appeals to buyers who want continuity from the film set, similar to recent sales of a rare chassis-one supercar or a well-documented Porsche collection .
