“Renault will do exactly what the Indian market needs”: CEO Stéphane Deblaise

The launch of the Duster Hybrid is a reaffirmation of this intent where the French automaker will offer customers clean fuel options like CNG too with electric being the eventual goal.

Renault expects the Duster Hybrid to drive volumes, with CEO Stéphane Deblaise calling hybrid the “new diesel” for its fuel economy, driving pleasure and lower noise, vibration and harshness.

Renault is prioritising new powertrain options, including hybrid and CNG, to cater to India’s diverse customer base, while introducing a 100 hp Triber and a planned CNG variant.

Renault is prioritising product competitiveness over plant capacity utilisation, streamlining decision-making under a single CEO and focusing on rebuilding the brand’s presence in India.

Stéphane Deblaise is reasonably confident that the Duster Hybrid has the potential to clock good numbers. “This engine should be at the core of the volumes for Duster. Hybrid is the new diesel even though Duster was a big success over 10 years ago mainly due to diesel. Today, hybrid is much better than diesel in fuel economy, driving pleasure and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness)” the CEO of Renault Group India told ET Auto . Deblaise is also not deterred by the fact that the petrol version of Duster launched earlier this March has been reporting rather modest volumes. “It would have been an issue if there were some mistakes in the vehicle and people had complained about something not being good,” he said.
