Porsche Mission S Could Get A Manual If Customers Want One

The Porsche Mission S is more than a concept car. It is our first look at what the brand intends to sit above the 911 in its lineup—a new flagship sports car that the automaker’s boss says could accommodate a manual transmission, if people want one.

At this week's launch event, Porsche CEO Michael Leiters noted the platform’s powertrain flexibility, including the possibility of a manual, according to Road and Track. He said:

Porsche hasn’t provided a timeline for when the Mission S concept will become a production model. All we know for sure is that the cars on this new platform will sit above the 911, command a higher price tag, and likely offer even more performance.

The Mission S is unmistakable as anything other than a Porsche, inside and out. The concept features a "Floating Volumes” design, bodywork that appears to float above the car.

The car looks long, low, and wide, with the mid-engine layout giving the Mission S some stunning proportions. It has an active rear wing, cooling fans inspired by the 917, and lightweight wheels.

Inside, the Mission S lacks the big screens that dominate modern interiors. Instead, five round analog gauges sit in front of digital displays. A phone mount on the dash replaces the infotainment screen, but physical controls remain.

Porsche hasn’t provided any details about the car. Technical specs, performance figures, and price remain a complete mystery.

We don’t even know when it will enter production. For now, the Mission S previews what to expect from the automaker, and it’s a stunning vision of the future we can’t wait to experience.
