Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO) flagship ES9 SUV has reached 3,000 cumulative deliveries in Shanghai, the city where the company's global headquarters are located.
Nio announced the milestone on Monday, handing over a vehicle at the Shanghai leg of the Nio Cup National Golf Invitational to a customer switching from a traditional luxury combustion-engine vehicle.
The company said the ES9 reached the milestone after 5 full months of deliveries and had led sales of vehicles priced above 500,000 yuan ($74,470) in Shanghai for 4 consecutive months.
The ES9 was launched on May 27 this year, with deliveries beginning the following day. Its starting price, including the battery pack, is 498,000 yuan.
The model surpassed 1,000 cumulative deliveries in Shanghai on July 5, making it the first city in China to reach that milestone, according to an earlier Nio statement.
Shanghai is a key market for Nio. The company recorded retail sales of 20,736 vehicles in the city in the first half of this year, accounting for 10.88% of its China retail sales over the same period, according to data published on July 21 by a WeChat account affiliated with the government of Shanghai's Jiading district.
The ES9 recorded 7,706 deliveries in September, up 18.94% from August and its second-highest monthly total since launch, according to China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data compiled by CnEVPost.
Cumulative ES9 deliveries reached 32,203 by the end of September. 62% of Nio's main-brand deliveries that month, underscoring the role of large SUVs in supporting the brand's sales.
