Mahle sees India as steady ship on rough global waters

The German automotive supplier believes the best is yet to come from India in exports and technology.

India is the lone bright spot in a global auto slowdown, with Mahle banking on exports to double its Indian business to €800 million–€1 billion.

Mahle expects flat global sales for the next one to two years, with growth towards the end of the decade following capacity realignment and restructuring.

India is emerging as a technology innovation hub, with Mahle introducing some technologies here first, driven by evolving customer needs and the shift towards electrification and renewable fuels.

Mahle sees India as a growth market, with exports driving expansion of its Indian business.

German automotive supplier, Mahle, believes that India is the lone bright star in a world characterized by volatility and uncertainty.

“India is an exception in a world of declining markets for the automotive sector,” Arnd Franz, Chairman of the Mahle Group Management Board And CEO, told ET Auto at the recent IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover. As he put it, “The European market has declined as also the American and East Asian markets. The Chinese are now declining too.” This is in sharp contrast to India’s auto sector which has been posting good growth across vehicle categories. Advt

“We are an automotive supplier used to pressure and constant productivity gains required by our customers. This is because they are competing in a cost-competitive market,” said Franz. This pressure has increased because on top of productivity increase requirements, Mahle now has to factor in capacity adjustments.
