BYD has introduced its first 'Danza' EVs in Indonesia after renaming its premium brand Denza locally following a trademark dispute. It has also announced plans to deploy 100 Flash Chargers in the country by December, potentially the largest rollout of its new high-power charging technology in Southeast Asia.
The Chinese automaker has launched an updated version of the D9 MPV and the Z9 GT shooting brake under the Danza line-up in Indonesia. It manufactures both models in plug-in hybrid and pure electric variants but has brought only the latter to Indonesia. Both EVs feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery with LFP cells and are capable of charging from 10 per cent to 97 per cent in nine minutes.
The new D9’s second-gen Blade Battery has an energy storage capacity of 115 kWh, up 11 per cent from the previous model’s 103.36 kWh unit. It has a front-mounted electric motor that produces 340 kW, 110 kW more than the old version’s motor. The updated D9 offers an NEDC range of 730 kilometres, which represents an improvement of 110 kilometres.
In a live demonstration presented to journalists in Jakarta, BYD charged the new D9 from 10 per cent to 70 per cent SoC in 5 minutes and 48 seconds, and further to 97 per cent SoC in 9 minutes and 43 seconds. The company has priced the updated model with Flash Charging support at IDR 1.08 billion rupiah or approximately €53,200 euros (on-road, Jakarta).
