Chevrolet and GMC are giving their midsize trucks the same engine upgrade that just landed on the Silverado and Sierra. Order information and GM documentation for the 2027 Colorado and Canyon point to a new L4B TurboMax rating that moves these trucks into a different power bracket than the model they replace.
The 2027 Colorado and Canyon are expected to carry GM's turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder in its L4B form. GM documents effectively confirm the horsepower and torque figures for these trucks.
GM's September 17 powertrain reference lists the Enhanced TurboMax at 350 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. That document covers the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500, and GM has not yet posted an equivalent consumer-facing spec sheet dedicated to the Colorado or Canyon.
Order-guide coverage attributes the same 350-hp, 455-lb-ft rating to the midsize trucks using the L4B engine code. Other reporting, including coverage from Pickup Truck Talk, notes that peak output arrives at 5,200 rpm for horsepower and 3,000 rpm for torque.
If those figures apply unchanged, the Colorado and Canyon would match the power output of GM's own Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the GMC Sierra 1500, an unusual overlap between a midsize and full-size lineup from the same maker. GM has extended similar hardware changes across its truck range, including the heavy-duty truck powertrain updates announced earlier this year.
Reports that rely on GM documentation indicate a maximum towing figure of 7,700 pounds for properly equipped trucks, in line with the outgoing Colorado and Canyon.
