EVgo has previewed a next-generation EV charging system capable of delivering up to 750 kilowatts of power.
Design, development and testing of the new charger are taking place at EVgo’s Innovation Lab in El Segundo, California, with development support from longtime partner Delta Electronics.
EVgo expects to unveil the final charger design in 2027 as it begins deploying the new architecture.
The new charging system incorporates features based on data from 1.8 million customer accounts, including improved cable maneuverability, a touchless payment interface and hardware and firmware designed to improve reliability and simplify the charging process. Each station will feature NACS connectors.
The chargers will use dynamic power sharing, which automatically adjusts power distribution in real time so each dispenser supplies the output required by the connected vehicle throughout a charging session. Dynamic power sharing also supports grid stability by allocating electricity where it is needed and smoothing demand spikes.
EVgo CEO Badar Khan said: “Our investment in our 750 kW next-generation architecture future-proofs our network for current and future vehicles. Charge rates seen on the EVgo network are increasing, up nearly 20% in the last two years. We expect that to continue, and our new architecture will help meet growing demand for high-power charging.”
