ConnectDER’s meter socket adapters simplify EV charging installations, now approved for installs in Washington DC

ConnectDER makes a line of meter socket adapters (MSAs), also known as meter collars, for solar, battery storage and EV charging installations. These adapters connect directly to the existing meter socket outside a home, potentially eliminating the need to upgrade a building’s service panel or increase service capacity.

ConnectDER’s devices are UL-listed and National Electrical Code-compliant, and have received utility approvals in 54 US utility service territories. The latest electric utility to approve the company’s products for installation is Pepco, which serves the Washington DC area.

ConnectDER’s Solar MSA, EV MSA and IslandDER MSA are designed to simplify the installation of distributed energy resources (DERs), helping installers reduce costs and installation times.

ConnectDER’s EV MSA provides a power connection at the meter for residential EV charging equipment. According to the company, the adapter can make it possible to add a high-power EV charger without upgrading an existing 100-amp electrical panel.

“ConnectDER’s meter socket adapters have helped us make solar and EV charging accessible to more DC residents without requiring expensive electrical upgrades,” said Joseph Sigwarth, Executive Director of Operations for DC-based Solar Solution. “Our customers get a less disruptive, more cost-effective installation, and our team avoids much of the additional time, labor and complexity associated with panel reconfigurations and service upgrades.”
