BYD put a number on the table at the Paris Motor Show that most EV makers would not dare: nine minutes. That is how long the automaker says its new Atto 8 needs to go from a near-empty battery to nearly full, provided you are plugged into the right charger.
The Atto 8 is BYD's first seven-seat electric flagship for Europe, built around a second-generation Blade battery rated at 115 kWh. It lands in European showrooms in the first quarter of 2027, and the specs underneath it are as aggressive as the charging claim.
BYD unveiled the Atto 8 on October 12, and it's the brand's largest and most expensive SUV for the region. The crossover measures 198.4 inches long, 78.6 inches wide and 69.3 inches tall, a footprint that puts it among the bigger three-row crossovers sold in Europe.
Inside, BYD fits a panoramic glass roof spanning 25.7 square feet and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, the kind of cabin tech that has become standard fare for a flagship SUV. BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li billed the model as proof of concept for the brand's broader ambitions, calling the Atto 8 "the perfect example" of turning intelligence into reality.
The seven-seat layout slots the Atto 8 into a crowded field of European three-row electrics, including the Skoda Peaq. BYD is betting that battery size and charging speed, not just seating flexibility, will be what separates its flagship from the pack.
A common mistake buyers make with any three-row EV is assuming seven seats means seven adults fit comfortably on a road trip.
