BMW’s first three-row electric SUV is almost here: Here’s an early look at the iX7

BMW is preparing to introduce its first three-row electric SUV. With its official debut coming up, the iX7 was spotted testing, offering a sneak peek at the full-size luxury SUV.

The iX7 is the electric version of BMW’s largest and most luxurious SUV. Although BMW has yet to announce it officially, disguised prototypes were recently caught testing at the Nürburgring in Germany.

After the iX3 and iX5, the iX7 is the next BMW SUV in line to debut with its Neue Klasse technology and design.

Like the iX5, BMW’s three-row electric SUV will retain a more traditional style than the full-on Neue Klasse EVs, such as the iX3.

While it’s still covered, the image posted on Reddit shows the grille appears much wider and chunkier than the slim, upright updated Kidney Grille design on the iX3. It also features split headlights, similar to the current X7, rather than the wider headlights on Neue Klasse models.

The iX7 also drops the conventional pull-style door handles in favor of small handles located on the vehicle’s pillar.

BMW will reveal details closer to its debut, expected in mid-2027. Like the smaller iX5 60 xDrive, the iX7 is expected to use a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. The iX5’s AWD setup delivers a combined 578 hp (425 kW) and 593 lb-ft of torque, which BMW said enables it to hit 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

Powered by a 144 kWh battery, BMW said the iX5 will offer up to 435 miles of range. It will also use an 800V electrical system for fast charging.
