Hyundai isn't wasting any time fleshing out the new Tucson lineup. We just saw the rugged XRT Pro, and now the South Korean automaker is taking a sportier approach with the N Line. It gets exclusive interior and exterior upgrades, including 20-inch alloy wheels, red accents, and suede seats. However, as an N Line rather than a full-blown N model, it predictably keeps the same mechanical package.
While most automakers hide exhaust tips beneath the rear bumper, Hyundai takes a different approach with the Tucson N Line. The sporty trim flaunts dual exhaust tips as part of its more aggressive look, even though it has no extra power under the hood. It's a small but deliberate reminder that this Tucson wants to look the part, even if it isn't a full-blown N model.
In Europe, the Tucson in N Line flavor sticks with the same broad powertrain lineup as the standard SUV. The entry-level 1.6-liter T-GDI gasoline engine produces 148 horsepower. It is available with front-wheel drive and either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, depending on the configuration.
Those wanting more power can step up to the hybrid, which pairs the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with an electric motor and a 1.49-kWh battery. Total output reaches 242 hp, with both front- and all-wheel-drive versions available. A six-speed automatic transmission handles the shifting, helping the Tucson N Line hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.3 seconds.
1-kWh battery and a combined output of 288 hp. Hyundai quotes an electric driving range of up to 42 miles (67 kilometers) for versions fitted with the 20-inch wheels.
