As denim brands approach Spring/Summer 2028, they will find fabrics that are versatile, solution-oriented and deliver clear value. While past seasons have introduced innovations that may never extend beyond a single capsule collection, global denim mills are heeding market feedback and prioritizing fabrics with broader commercial appeal.
A cautious mood is to be expected in the current economic environment, but Berke Aydemir, Naveena Denim Mills senior general manager for R&D and technical sales, said brands are still show interest in innovation.
“It simply needs to be purposeful, wearable and easy for the customer to understand,” he said.
Those qualities have had a major influence on Naveena’s developments for S/S ’28. “A fabric needs to offer a clear reason to buy, whether that comes from its look, performance, material story or ability to work across different fits and washes,” he said.
Blake Gaines, Cone Denim’s director of design and marketing, said buyer feedback has been consistent: “give us something new, but make it make sense.”
For Cone, that means fabrics with softer hands and authentic but expressive shades. He added that brands are being thoughtful about what they bring into their assortments, making commercial versatility, comfort, quality and a clear point of difference more important than ever. “That really shaped our S/S ’28 approach—we wanted the collection to feel fresh and exciting, but still incredibly wearable and easy for a brand to build into a real denim program,” he said.
