Royal Canin India targets 3x growth in 5 years, steps up investment in brand building, distribution and packaging capacity
Royal Canin India plans to significantly increase its business over the next five years. The company expects the Indian pet food market to grow substantially, reaching nearly $1.5 billion by 2031. Investments in brand building, distribution, and packaging capacity will accelerate this growth. Additionally, Royal Canin aims to expand the distribution network to 400 cities in 18 months.
Royal Canin India plans to triple its business over the next five years, stepping up investments in brand building, distribution and packaging capacity as the country’s pet food market expands on rising pet ownership and premiumisation. The company, which is growing at nearly 1.8 times the category’s pace, expects the Indian pet food market to grow at around 12 per cent annually to reach nearly $1.5 billion by 2030–31, from about $806 million currently at retail sales value (RSV). “This year also we are growing at about 25 per cent. And we have plans to triple our business in the next five years,” Satinder Singh, general manager, Royal Canin India, told ETRetail. Advt
While Royal Canin currently accounts for around 16 per cent of the market at RSV level, its share in the super-premium segment stands at about 80 per cent. The segment contributes nearly 20 per cent of the overall category, leaving significant headroom for growth across mainstream and economy offerings as well. “We are not here to just share game, but we are here to expand the category,” Singh said, pointing to premiumisation and the conversion of more pet parents to packaged nutrition as the two key growth drivers.
