Mckenna Grace Is Hiding Some Deep-Cut ‘Hunger Games’ References in Her Press Tour Wardrobe

The actress has turned to Monique Lhuillier, Gucci, Betsey Johnson and more ahead of the Nov. 20 release of “Sunrise on the Reaping.”

Method dressing is ubiquitous for high-profile stars promoting their new projects. But actress Mckenna Grace has taken the approach a step further while promoting “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” referencing costumes, franchise stars’ own red carpet moments and symbols from the world of Panem.

Under the guidance of stylist Molly Dickson, Grace’s press tour wardrobe has been full of custom and archival designs from Monique Lhuillier, Gucci and Betsey Johnson, among others. WWD breaks down five of those designer moments from October ahead.

While attending “Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style and Power of Panem” in Paris on Oct. 6, Grace wore a recreation of Katniss Everdeen’s wedding dress from the film adaptation of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” The original gown was created by costume designer Trish Summerville in collaboration with Tex Saverio.

Monique Lhuillier created the custom recreation. A large, dramatic, layered tulle skirt gave the look plenty of volume, with a strapless, formfitting corset-style bodice cast in white amplifying the angelic look. Shimmering silver appliqués formed intersecting lines that evoked wings and created a cage-like effect, seemingly defying gravity as they extended from the bodice.

Grace took a different tack with her method dressing at the Academy Museum Gala on Oct. 17. The actress wore a custom Mônot red gown that harkened back to the red Calvin Klein Collection gown designed by Francisco Costa that Jennifer Lawrence wore to the 2011 Academy Awards.
