A new study shows AWS’s digital infrastructure in Spain is driving revenue, employment, and business opportunities.
Companies working with Amazon data centers create more jobs, with nearly 6 in 10 having grown their workforce.
The expertise developed in Spain is also creating opportunities well beyond the country’s borders.
When Amazon opened its data centers in Aragón, Spain, in 2022, the investment brought more than technology infrastructure to the region—it created a ripple effect across the local economy.
A new independent study found that Amazon Web Services ' (AWS) digital infrastructure is driving revenue, employment, and new business opportunities at home and internationally for the Spanish companies that help build and operate the data centers.
Amazon's data centers are 7x more water-efficient than the industry average. Here’s how we do it.
Amazon is constantly innovating to reduce the amount of water we use in our data centers, resulting in a 52% improvement in water efficiency since 2021.
According to the study by GfK, part of NielsenIQ, commissioned by AWS, 85% of local suppliers say working with AWS has had a positive impact on their business, and none rated it negatively.
Amazon plans to invest €33.7 billion ($37.5 billion) in Spain through 2035 to expand and support this infrastructure in Spain. The total planned investment is estimated to contribute €31.7 billion to Spain's GDP through 2035, supporting the equivalent of 29,900 full-time jobs on average per year at local companies, including direct, indirect, and induced jobs.
Based on interviews with suppliers to AWS's data centers and a random sample of local companies in the same sectors that do not work with the company, the study reveals that more than half (60%) of suppliers have increased their revenue since they began working with AWS, with an average increase of 35% among those reporting a positive impact, 9 points above non-suppliers (26%).
