The athlete will be broadcasting live for WABC and ESPN on the women's professional race at the NYC Marathon Sunday.
When nearly 60,000 people line up on the Verrazano Bridge on Sunday morning for the 50th start of the New York City Marathon, Becs Gentry won’t be among them.
Instead of lacing up her sneakers, the British endurance runner, Peloton instructor and Hoka global ambassador will be on a broadcast vehicle providing on-course commentary for WABC-TV and ESPN on the women’s professional field.
“I’m on the moto, so I will have the best seat in the house,” she said. “This is my third year doing that role. I did finish-line reporting my first year, and I adore it. I get to watch the people who I idolize and who inspire me every day to be a strong female athlete. And I get to be meters away from them doing what they love to do, and their job, and show the world strong women in sport.”
In addition to the race-day broadcast, Gentry is also cohost of the New York Road Runners’ podcast, “Set the Pace,” where she interviews elite athletes and runners every week.
But while she may have started a new chapter in her career, it’s not like she’s spending all her time talking about running. At the end of August, Gentry completed the CCC at UTMB Mont-Blanc, a 68-mile trail run through Courmayeur, Italy, Champex-Lac, Switzerland, and Chamonix, France, with an elevation gain of more than 2,000 feet.
