General Magic acquires Latch AI to boost clinic retention

The deal combines General Magic's healthcare practice software with Latch AI's client retention and relationship intelligence technology, which is designed to identify when customers begin to disengage and prompt action to reduce churn and win referrals.

General Magic's main product, gema, connects with the systems used by clinics and manages routine operational tasks across them. These include answering calls, texts, web chats and emails; booking and changing appointments; sending reminders and follow-ups; and writing confirmed bookings back into a clinic's system of record.

Latch AI had been part of the Martell Ventures portfolio. Its software focuses on helping businesses detect customer drift, prevent churn, and generate renewals and referrals.

The acquisition signals a push by General Magic to expand its role in healthcare practices beyond scheduling and communications into patient retention and relationship management. The company aims to sit across the mix of systems already used by clinics rather than require them to replace existing software.

Parm Gill, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of General Magic, said the company sees administration as a major constraint on practice owners and staff.

"We don't believe the future of healthcare is about replacing people with technology. We believe it is about giving great people better tools. The biggest opportunity is to remove the administrative friction that consumes so much of a practice owner's and staff's day. When technology can answer the phone, manage a booking, send a follow-up, update the record and handle routine work automatically, people can get back to the work that actually requires people.
