DP World has appointed Jason Varsamidis Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of its Asia Pacific region, effective immediately.
He will oversee the company's ports, terminals and logistics businesses across 22 Asia Pacific geographies, where DP World employs more than 12,000 people. The regional operation includes 16 ports and terminals as well as broader supply chain services.
The appointment is a promotion for an executive who has spent nearly three decades with the business and its predecessor, P&O Ports. He joined in 1997 and most recently served as Chief Financial Officer for DP World Asia Pacific, a role he had held since 2020.
In that position, he worked on regional strategy, investment planning and business performance. Earlier, he spent seven years as Chief Financial Officer of DP World Australia.
Across his career, Varsamidis has overseen mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure projects and business turnaround programmes. In his new role, he will lead regional strategy and operations, with a focus on supply chains and expanding the group's logistics activities in Asia Pacific.
DP World said it would announce separate arrangements for the regional Chief Financial Officer role in due course.
Asia Pacific is a significant part of DP World's international network. Globally, the company operates across six continents and employs more than 125,000 people. The Asia Pacific division is a major regional platform for its port and logistics operations.
The business in the region spans both maritime infrastructure and inland logistics services. That mix reflects the broader direction of major trade and transport groups, which have increasingly sought to combine port assets with supply chain operations as customers look for fewer handovers across freight networks.
