Tebogo, a De Beers global ambassador, will be the face of new campaign aimed at connecting sporting excellence with "Botswana’s broader story of opportunity, progress and possibility."
LONDON – De Beers group, the government of the Republic of Botswana and sprinting champion Letsile Tebogo are teaming to promote the African nation as a heartland of natural diamonds and to mark its 60 years of independence.
De Beers and Botswana have expanded their partnership with Tebogo, which began in 2025 when he was named a De Beers Global ambassador, into a three-year program anchored in a global campaign platform called “The Road to LA28.”
The tie-up with Tebogo, who took home Botswana’s first Olympic gold medal after winning the 200-meters event at the 2024 Olympics, is part of De Beers’ wider efforts to support natural diamond demand and promote Botswana’s contribution to the diamond industry.
De Beers, which is owned by the government of Botswana and Anglo American, said the extended partnership “will help shine a light on the transformative role that natural diamonds play in creating opportunities, supporting communities and driving long-term prosperity in Botswana.”
The campaign will follow Tebogo’s journey as he prepares for the next chapter of his career and trains for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. It will also feature initiatives “that explore the dedication, sacrifice and support systems behind elite performance. The campaign will connect sporting excellence with Botswana’s broader story of opportunity, progress and possibility,” De Beers said.
