The brand’s new packable collection strips away some of the organization that made Dagne Dover ubiquitous — just as the company enters its next phase of growth.
The brand, which built its name on bags engineered for organization — pockets, key leashes, laptop compartments and a place for seemingly everything — has debuted a new chapter with the Super Soft collection. The debut represents a notable loosening up, arriving as the company prepares for a much larger expansion of its business.
Launching Wednesday, Super Soft comprises four packable styles in a lightweight, water-resistant recycled nylon-poly blend: the Gigantic Tote, Large Tote, Convertible Backpack and Sling, priced from $145 to $175. Each folds into its own interior pouch and is machine washable. Even the 82.6-liter Gigantic Tote weighs just 1.2 pounds.
It’s a shift that feels in step with the broader handbag market, where utility increasingly means adaptability rather than rigid organization. Bags have gotten softer and slouchier as the boundaries between work, travel, exercise and everyday life have blurred.
The brand’s Neoprene accessories and carryalls have become ubiquitous in airports, offices and on city streets, while styles like its Dakota backpack have achieved cult and viral status online. While Dagne helped make hyper-organization desirable, now it is betting that consumers sometimes want less of it.
“What we’ve learned is that weight, comfort, flexibility and ease have become just as important as function and organization,” said Jessy Dover, cofounder and chief creative officer.
