Chanel has sold its majority stake in the CDMO to Motion Equity Partners, while the founding CEO and management team retain a minority share.
PARIS – Capsum, a CMDO in advanced skin care, makeup and hair care formulation and manufacturing, has changed hands.
Motion Equity Partners has acquired a majority stake in the company from Chanel, which remains a minority shareholder in Capsum, as are Sébastien Bardon, its founding chief executive officer, and the management team.
“We’re opening the third chapter of Capsum’s adventure,” Bardon said, adding it is one of continuity.
“We have been deeply impressed by Capsum’s unique positioning at the intersection of technology, beauty and industrial excellence,” said Patrick Eisenchteter, managing partner at Motion Equity Partners. “Capsum is a science-led company where innovation and sustainability are engineered end-to-end.
“The group has known a remarkable journey, from scientific breakthroughs to a distinctive innovation platform,” he continued. “With a unique technological know-how and outstanding innovation capabilities, Capsum has developed privileged relationships with the world’s leading beauty brands. We are delighted to partner with Sébastien Bardon and the entire Capsum team and look forward to supporting them in this ambitious new phase of growth.”
He explained the first chapter for the group came at the start of the company in 2008, then best known for its expertise in microfluidics, a proprietary technology used to encapsulate active ingredients and create visually distinctive and highly sensorial textures. That is when his team navigated prototypes and held discussions with potential clients to figure out what Capsum could bring to the industry with its technology.
