Adidas runners took half of all the podium spots and an even greater percentage of winners.
With Sheila Chepkirui and Andreas Almgren winning the New York City Marathon Sunday, the 2026 World Marathon Majors circuit has come to a close.
Looking back on this year’s winners and podium finishers, one brand absolutely ran the table with its team of runners.
Adidas runners finished in first nine times out of 14 opportunities across the men’s and women’s races at the Tokyo, Boston, London, Sydney, Berlin, Chicago and NYC Marathons. Widening the net to the top-three finishers, the brand claimed 21 of 42 podium positions, including a historic sweep on both the men’s and women’s sides at Berlin.
Nike came in second with three major winners, followed by Under Armour and Asics with one apiece. The Swoosh also took the number-two spot for podium finishes with eight and Asics in third with five. On then counted two top-three spots, Under Armour and the Chinese brand XTep had two and Brooks claimed one.
Almost all of the Adidas runner’s accomplishments came in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, including Sabastian Sawe and Yomif Kejelcha becoming the first and second men, respectively, to finish a marathon in under two hours and Tigst Assefa setting a new women’s-only world record.
The only exceptions came early in the first two races of the year. Tokyo Marathon men’s winner Tadese Takele and women’s third-place finisher Hawi Feysa wore the Pro Evo 1 and Bertukan Welde (women’s second) and Alexander Mutiso Munyao (men’s third) wore the Pro Evo 2.
