It’s hard to keep track of where Waymo robotaxis are going to launch, are testing, are launching, are open to some people but not others, are open to everyone, etc. Three cities where it recently launched robotaxi service are Tampa, San Antonio, and San Diego, and now the robotaxi service is available to everyone and anyone.
“Starting today, anyone in San Antonio, San Diego, and Tampa can download the Waymo app and hail a fully autonomous ride, including the San Antonio International Airport. We’ve welcomed hundreds of thousands of riders in these cities since opening our service earlier in the year, whether heading to the beach, a hockey game, the Riverwalk or just a grocery run,” Waymo wrote yesterday. “While these cities have different personalities, they have similar needs. They have embraced Waymo as an important resource for expanding accessible and reliable transportation options across the region.”
As noted above, this includes robotaxi service to a major airport, always a popular option for taxi service. People flying in or out of San Antonio International Airport can now choose this option. Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports for the City of San Antonio Aviation, said: “San Antonio International Airport is committed to building the airport of the future and embracing cutting-edge technology and innovation. Waymo offering fully autonomous rides at the airport marks a significant milestone for Waymo, our city and travelers.
