Brazilian company Samauma has secured the highest BeZero carbon rating currently assigned to an avoided unplanned deforestation (AUD) project for its Tauari initiative in the state of Acre, Brazil.
As shared by Samauma, Project Tauari has now received a pre-issuance BeZero rating of ‘A.pre’ with low project execution risk.
This milestone represents the first A.pre rating among publicly available AUD project ratings, and it positions Tauari as the first AUD project to achieve an ‘aa’ risk score for additionality and ‘a’ risk scores for carbon accounting and permanence.
Created to protect a territory of 98,057.89 hectares of Amazon rainforest in Tarauacá, Acre, Project Tauari is one of the state’s largest forest conservation initiatives and is currently progressing through certification under Equitable Earth’s M002 methodology.
To date, the project has completed Equitable Earth’s Feasibility Phase and is now in the Project Design stage, listed on their registry under Project ID 2001.
Proposed, developed, and landowned by Samauma, Project Tauari is a private-land REDD+ seeking to avoid unplanned deforestation and degradation while supporting biodiversity conservation, territorial governance, and local livelihoods.
As such, the project works with local families, focused on strengthening a forest-based economy in this region and supporting sustainable economic independence by connecting long-term forest protection with local livelihoods.
Sharing excitement over the project’s high BeZero carbon rating, Samauma CEO Nicolas Londoño stated, “This recognition positions Tauari among the strongest AUD projects in the market.
