UK synthetic fuel hardware manufacturer Rivan Industries has inaugurated Production Base 1, a 60,000-square-foot facility in London dedicated to the commercial manufacturing of synthetic natural gas (SNG) hardware.
Led by a newly appointed Manufacturing Director recruited from US aerospace firm Blue Origin, the facility will consolidate in-house metal fabrication, electronics, and final assembly. Once fully operational, the semi-automated plant will produce up to 50 of Rivan’s 1MW modular SNG systems annually for deployment across the UK, alongside housing 25,000 square feet of dedicated R&D space.
Rivan’s fully integrated 1MW modular system utilizes off-grid solar power to generate hydrogen and capture CO2, feeding both into an on-site catalytic reactor to produce drop-in, grid-specification SNG.
The facility opening follows the deployment of Rivan’s initial 1MW commercial demonstration system in Wiltshire in August 2026.
The commercial scale-up addresses UK energy security vulnerabilities, where imported fossil gas currently accounts for approximately 60% of national supply.
Because Rivan’s synthetic fuel meets national gas grid specifications, it can be injected directly into existing pipeline infrastructure without requiring midstream modifications or end-user equipment overhauls.
“The development of a domestic supply chain for SNG in the UK will be critical for strengthening UK energy security,” the company noted, adding that its deployment strategy targets 1TWh of operational SNG production over the next three years.
To support the manufacturing ramp-up, Rivan plans to recruit over 100 engineering and operational roles at the London site over the next 12 months, ahead of bringing the world’s largest operational SNG plant online in early 2027.
