Poland unveils new home storage subsidy

Poland’s Ministry of Climate and Environment has announced a new subsidy scheme for home energy and heat storage units.

The program is geared towards individuals with a renewable energy micro-installation already connected to the grid. Support will be available for energy storage units with a capacity of at least 10 kWh and heat storage units with a capacity of at least 100 liters.

The scheme will cover costs related to the purchase and installation of home storage units. Up to PLN 16,000 ($4,127.57) is available to prosumers in the net-billing system buying energy storage systems, while prosumers in the net-metering system can receive up to PLN 8,000.

Applicants can receive up to PLN 1,000 for heat storage systems, with an additional bonus of up to PLN 2,000 available for devices manufactured in the EU. Available support is capped at PLN 19,000 per energy point.

The Polish government is making a total PLN 1 billion available, financed via the Moderinsation Fund. The scheme will open for applications on October 20 and is set to run until the start of October 2027, or until when funds are exhausted.

Poland’s Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, said equipping residential solar installations with energy storage is a ministerial priority.

“The program has two main goals: increasing the efficiency of renewable energy use and strengthening energy security,” she added.

Analysis published by the ministry adds previous support for the purchase of storage facilities helped the number of home energy storage facilities in Poland jump from 10,000 in 2024 to around 150,000 as of June this year.
