Italy awards full 30 MW quota in second floating PV tender

Italy’s second competitive bidding round for floating photovoltaic systems on inland waters under the FER2 incentive scheme has allocated its entire 30 MW quota. According to rankings published by Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE), two projects were excluded despite offering a 2% discount on the reference tariff.

The result marks a turnaround from the first FER2 floating solar tender, which allocated capacity to just one 991 kW project out of a 50 MW quota. The Italian authorities subsequently reduced the quota to 30 MW for the second round.

Of the eight successful projects, seven have capacities exceeding 1 MW and offered discounts ranging from 2.010% to 3.25% on the reference tariff.

The largest project is a 5.5 MW floating PV installation proposed by Sunprime Agira in Landiona, in the province of Novara, Piedmont. The project secured capacity with a 2.010% discount on the reference tariff of €70.6 ($82.0)/MWh.

The smallest successful project is a 380 kW installation proposed by Gens Srl in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna. It secured capacity with a 2% discount on the reference tariff of €84.7/MWh.

Rosa Rinnovabili secured allocations for five projects in Lombardy, located in the municipalities of Pioltello and Mediglia, in the province of Milan.

For the second round, reference tariffs for floating PV systems on inland waters were set at €87.3/MWh for installations between 1 kW and 300 kW, €84.7/MWh for systems between 300 kW and 1 MW, and €70.6/MWh for installations exceeding 1 MW.

In the previous round, reference tariffs stood at €90/MWh for installations between 1 kW and 1 MW and €75/MWh for systems exceeding 1 MW.
