Former Gold Standard executive Hugh Salway has launched Crofton Advisory, a new consultancy focused on carbon markets, with the firm set to advise clients across the voluntary and compliance markets and under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Salway announced the venture on LinkedIn, saying he had spent the past few months establishing the business after leaving Gold Standard, where he worked for five years. “building a stronger and more impactful carbon market,” he wrote in describing the firm’s objective.
Crofton Advisory’s website says it offers strategic insight, policy expertise and practical support to public and private-sector clients operating across global carbon markets. The firm’s work is aimed at helping organizations develop market strategies, navigate policy changes and implement projects in an increasingly complicated regulatory environment.
Salway brings experience from both the private and public sectors. Before joining Gold Standard in 2021, he spent eight years in the British government, including a role as head of international carbon markets. At Gold Standard, he worked on market development, partnerships and efforts to strengthen carbon-market integrity.
The launch comes as international carbon markets move toward more formalized trading frameworks. CORSIA-eligible credit supply has expanded sharply, while futures prices recently reached a five-month high.
At the same time, governments are developing Article 6 systems. Canada, for example, announced a policy framework this month intended to enable trading of internationally transferred mitigation outcomes, potentially opening another channel for international carbon finance.
That combination of expanding demand, tighter rules and increasingly complex market structures creates a potential opening for specialist advisers such as Crofton Advisory.
